10 Indicators That It’s Time to Replace Your Mattress

If your mattress is between 7 to 10-years-old, it should be replaced as soon as you can. While replacing your mattress every 8 years or so is recommended, Orange County mattress stores say that there are some indicators which could hint that you may need to replace your mattress sooner rather than later. Here are 10 signs you should watch out for.

1. Are You Waking Up Tired?

If you find yourself constantly pressing the snooze button in the morning, this could actually be a sign that your mattress is wearing out. As mattresses age, they begin to break down. Because of this, that means it slowly diminishes its ability to give you long nights of restful sleep. Hitting the snooze button is common because you’ll begin to feel like you need those extra 5 minutes to feel more rested.

2. Are Your Allergies Acting Up?

Do you ever find yourself with a stuffy nose, sore throat, or the sniffles when you wake up in the morning? Do you also notice that as the day goes on, your allergies just go away? Believe it or not, this could be the fault of your mattress. Our mattresses collect allergens such as dust mites, dust, and mold over time which causes allergies to flare up.

The average life-span of a mattress is 7 to 10 years, but again, that is depending on the materials used for your mattress and proper care. Hybrid mattresses can last up to 6 years or less whereas memory foam mattresses could last up to 15 years. It just depends. 

10. Is Your Mattress Noisy?

Are you hearing all the squeaks and creaks when you toss and turn in bed? This is a sure sign that it’s becoming old and needs replacing. Keep in mind that this also goes for a box spring if you use one of those under your mattress.

Why Do Mattresses Deteriorate In the First Place?

Plain and simple, it’s aging. As we get older, so do our mattresses. While there’s nothing we can really do to change that, there are things you can avoid in order to make your mattress last as long as possible. 

Having a weak base is the number one cause of premature deterioration. Use a box spring or bed frame with plenty of slats from Orange County mattress stores.
